Landfill methane fuels green energy program

Article Abstract:

The Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) in California has a 15-year contract with Kiefer Landfill, which is owned by the Sacramento County that provides renewable energy to both commercial and residential customers. SMUD has committed to increase the renewable portion of its power mix to 10 percent by 2006 and to 20 percent by 2011 through its solar, wind power, biomass and small hydroelectric facilities.

New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) holds conference on innovations to the farmers of the future. The retention times, feedstocks, microturbines, pathogen and odor reduction plus role of primary barriers, green power and carbon credits are analyzed with digester results by the NYSERDA.
