Marketing woody materials on the back of the biomass industry

Article Abstract:

California Bio-Mass Inc (CBM)'s spectacular rise from a $3,500 investment to a growing $2.7 million per year biomass business is a result of the company's focus on multiple markets as well as innovative wood recycling methods. CBM's early entry into the rolloff market was beneficial in the form of lack of competition and regulation. The company approached the financial institutions for loans when the focus was on environmental services. CBM has consciously moved into the biomass fuel business with its eyes set on preselling to golf courses and agriculture.

The Biocyle year in review

Article Abstract:

Active opposition and obvious problems characterize the year wherein the backlash against recycling hit full stride. Very little encouraging solutions are on the horizon as issues such as industry scope, inadequate facilities and financial support, marketability, program and initiative limitations and materials sourcing have emerged.

Pulling compostables from the residential stream

Article Abstract:

The wet/dry approach of compost separation is advantageous in many ways. Questions have been raised about the proper separation of the materials, the container required, amount to be collected, type of trucks to be used, and the cost of collection. The investigation reveals that compostables will be separated by the people just as recyclables are, and that a number of containers should be used for source separation.
