Nation's utilities and prominent billers join Internet bill delivery service pilot

Article Abstract:

MSFDC's Systems Integrators program has been enhanced to include some of US' biggest billers, including utility companies. The company's service, which will permit the participating firm's clients to receive and pay their obligations through the Internet, is seen by some companies as additional service for their customers. MSFDC, the result of a joint venture between Microsoft Corp. and First Data Corp., collects a fee for delivering an electronic version of a member firm's bill to a client and remits the payments made to the biller or directly to the bank.

Pilot trial shows UV disinfection inactivates microbes

Article Abstract:

A pilot trial conducted by Midway Sewer District located south of Seattle, WA, found that ultraviolet irradiation is an effective means in lowering residual chlorine standards for wastewater discharges. Under the UV process, wastewater is subjected to light energy in which the lamps are tuned to emit certain light frequencies. The pilot trial found that regulatory requirements of 200 counts per 100ml could be realized with a UV detention time of less than 3.5 seconds.
