Contractors shore up a weak market

Article Abstract:

The UK construction industry remains depressed, with most major contractors facing tough competition and seeing profits fall or unveiling losses. The main trends since 1995 include corporate restructuring; increased efforts to secure foreign work to counter the gloomy UK market; and a growing trend towards negotiated work with clients or partnering arrangements. The industry's hopes for a revival rest on the government's Private Finance Initiative, but it now seems that this will not bring in as much work as anticipated in 1997.

Ohio foundry to close

Article Abstract:

Citation Corp will shut down its ductile iron foundry in Mansfield, OH, in late Apr or early May 2001. The foundry, which has been in existence for 80 years, was operated by Citation under the Madison Foundry name, and before that was known as the Ohio Brass Co. Foundry manager Bob Heilman said the facility's closure was the result of the current recession in the manufacturing industry and its inability to operate profitably at reduced production level.
