Pneumatic conveying system for materials handling

Article Abstract:

A composting plant in Portland, OR, decided to install a pneumatic conveyor to replace its drag chain conveyor in 1994. Whir-Air-Flow provided a pneumatic system composed of a storage hopper, transport vessel, chatter gate and a steel tube. This equipment transports compost material into the storage hopper and from there into the bioreactors. The system was also equipped with a knife valve in the transport vessel to regulate the pressure used in moving the material through the discharge tube.

Mobile biosolids composter aids full-scale operation

Article Abstract:

The Camden County Municipal Utilities Authority (CCMUA) of Camden, NJ, uses a PWT Waste Solutions Tunnel Reactor composting plant to handle the biosolids generated by its wastewater treatment plant. A trailer mounted composting plant supplied by Waste Solutions enabled the CCMUA to work on its plant renovations while it served the community's composting needs. Meanwhile, the CCMUA was also able to market its compost products by testing its use as garden soil enhancers.

Measuring oxygen in compost piles

Article Abstract:

Compost oxygen levels can be continuously measured using a semiconductor gas sensor probe which is unaffected by high temperatures and cross contamination. The probe is designed for longterm use and can work in temperatures of up to 105 degrees centigrade. Its design, illustrated, contains sensors for relative humidity, temperature and oxygen. Sensor testing conditions are described.
