Processing mixed MSW and recyclables at Canadian facility

Article Abstract:

Conporec has been operating a composting facility for mixed solid wastes and recyclables in Tracy, QU, under a 20-year contract since Dec 1992. Recyclable items are separated out by residents, and Conporec despatches them to Groupe RCM, a nonprofit recycling facility in Yamachis, QU. The facility in Tracy, QU, can handle 35,000 m. tons/yr of waste, but is currently processing 24,000 m. tons/yr. Conporec's contract with Bas-Richelieu County stipulates that it cannot landfill more than 30% of the materials it collects for the facility.

Finding high-value markets for wood

Article Abstract:

Weaver Industries Inc is a wood processing firm which originally offered agricultural services such as tree transplanting, land clearing and collection of wood residuals. It became a much bigger firm when it began to supply biomass fuel to electric power plants. However, when the economic advantage of biomass fuel over traditional fuel sources ended, Weaver decided to shift to higher value products. These products include particle board furnishings, playground materials, animal bedding, mulch, and gypsum board for soil amendment.

New growth in contract wood processing

Article Abstract:

A survey reveals that municipalities, land clearing companies, lumber mills and other generators of woody materials increasingly utilize private contractors' services to process piles of wood stock at their sites. The contractors using their own equipment for composting and mulching waste materials, also benefit financially from such business. The introduction of portable equipment has sped up the process.
