Rio realism

Article Abstract:

Waste reduction was not the biggest issue tackled by the Earth Summit and the Global Forum but it provided one of the highlights of the said meetings, which is the strengthening of international cooperation on the issue of toxic chemical management. However, the organizers can be faulted for not givinggood example because of the way trash was handled during the summit. On a larger scope, the two meetings were able to showcase international environmental issues to the world's consciousness.

"Environmental" congress disappointing

Article Abstract:

The much promised environmental and solid waste reforms are repeatedly ignored by the US Congress which has its priorities set on health care and crime restriction. Despite local level effectiveness in waste reduction, lack of congressional aid hampers the growth of environmental stewardship associated with resource management. The Congress should focus more on waste management, which is highly profitable, providing export and job opportunities.
