Staking their claim

Article Abstract:

Web sites for the paper recycling industry were created to enable buyers and sellers to move their materials more easily. However, industry Web sites take different approaches in putting this purpose into practice. Several of the sites intend to be full and robust, offering trading capabilities, logistics, financing and back-office operations. Others aim to provide a clean, simple tool to enable Web users to quickly and efficiently buy and sell scrap paper. For users of these sites, what is important is which of the sites will provide the greatest benefit to users.

Winds shifting for paper markets

Article Abstract:

The paper recycling industry is showing mixed signals, with the old corrugated container (OCC) market continues to be sluggish through the rest of 2000, while other grades appear to hold much better promise. Paper stock dealers see many reasons for the sluggishness of the OCC market. Some of these are too much scheduled downtime, high generation, uncertain export markets and a slowing economy. On the other hand, other grades, such as pulp substitutes, office grades and ONP remain fairly stable.

Paper markets see the light of day

Article Abstract:

The paper recycling industry has been performing well in the first months of 1999 mainly due to the resurgence of foreign markets. Experts agree, however, that it is still too early to predict the emergence of a general trend in the industry. Factors that have a bearing on the industry's future include the performance of the US and world economy, exports, industry consolidations in the paperboard and paper industry, price increases and even weather patterns.
