Staying a part of the grid

Article Abstract:

The secondary copper industry in the US continues to thrive despite competition from new wiring, tubing and piping alternative materials and the oversupply of mined copper. A significant boost is the FCC's new indoor wiring standards requiring 24-gauge or thicker copper wiring for homes and buildings. Another contributing factor is the increase in copper scrap consumption by the brass and copper alloy sheet and strip industries.

Staying with the rules

Article Abstract:

The nonferrous scrap metal recycling industry has been given a new lease on life with the signing into law of the Superfund Recycling Equity Act (SREA) in Nov 29, 1999. Before the passage of the SREA, the industry was often in legal battles over liability provisions of the Superfund law. With the new law, the scrap metal recycling business is recognized as an activity different from the disposal and treatment of waste materials.

At least it's flowing

Article Abstract:

Jan 2000 prices for nonferrous copper scrap reached $66.34, a significant increase compared to Jan 1999's $51.16. Metal refiners attribute stronger pricing of copper products to the strong domestic construction market and increasing demand from international brokers. Metal processors, brokers and consumer alike are optimistic that the industry will perform well throughout 2000.
