The worth of recycling strapping

Article Abstract:

Recycling of steel and plastic strapping may help in the recovery of some businesses. According to a study on recycling strapping conducted by the Indiana Institute of Recycling in 1996, a total of 60,000 feet was recovered, of which plastic formed 63%. However, by weight, steel stood at 82% of the 1,127 lbs recovered. Steel strapping commands a higher price since its marketplace is as close as the nearest scrapyard. The marketplace for plastic has to travel far. Also, recycling of steel strapping is economically more feasible to businesses of all sizes, as compared to plastic strapping.

Standardizing recycling measurements

Article Abstract:

The EPA has developed a voluntary, standard approach for measuring recycling rates. This standardization was developed in cooperation with the Council of State Governments and public and private recycling representatives. The standardized methodology allows states and localities to use a work sheet to change their existing recycling rate to the standard municipal solid waste recycling rate. States and localities can also opt use an EPA guidance manual to develop a recycling measurement program consistent with the standardized method.
