Wake up call to Congress

Article Abstract:

The US Congress is being criticizedfor being too slow in reauthorizing the Resource Consevation and Recovery Act (RCRA). Concerned citizens fear that it will take years before this is done, despite the reality that US produces the largest waste materials in the world and that other economically powerful countries are already far ahead in waste management and resource recovery programs. Despite the slow Congress action on the RCRA, several states have already initated their own waste management programs which have become successful. This and the willingness of the public to cooperate in recycling programs should be enough to motivate Congress to acton RCRA immediately.

Coming up: the largest waste reduction impact ever

Article Abstract:

The European Union is planning to institute regulations that would promote the development of environmentally friendly and recyclable products and lessen the need for waste disposal. The rules may even include the banning of environmentally harmful products, a rare legislation in the world. Since the regulations are targeted for widespread adoption that would involve not only each citizen and business within the EU borders but will impact on international product suppliers as well, the move is forecasted to cast the largest waste reduction impact on the greatest number of people worldwide.
