Dumpster theory must die

Article Abstract:

Public awareness of the need for proper waste disposal has improved much, especially with regard to separation of wastes. However, the infrastructure design of most societal facilities and most waste collection services have remained antiquated. In order to take advantage of the heightened environmental consciousness, waste management programs must also call attention to the necessity of redesigning infrastructure to facilitate both waste separation and waste collection.

On the road to waste reduction

Article Abstract:

Time magazine reports that the 63.7 million pieces of 3rd class mail represents about 4 million tons of material and 39% of all US postal volume, which speaks poorly of the waste reduction efforts concerning this mail. The problems caused by the low demand and pricing of mixed paper can be overcome by sustained joint and individual public action, such as the removal of names from mailing lists. The reusable envelope is a step in the right direction.
