Why land application looks easy in Madison, Wisconsin

Article Abstract:

The Metropolitan Sewerage District of Madison, WI, has been successful in recycling much of the district's solid wastes through its Metrogro program. The program involves the treatment of sludge at the Nine Springs Wastewater Treatment Facility and the production of environmentally-safe agricultural fertilizers. Through intensive public information campaigns the district has been able to generate a strong interest in the fertilizers among farmers, ensuring a steady market for the solid waste treatment by-product.
