Big clients push construction boom

Hispanic-owned construction and steel company, Ideal Group, is ranked 52nd in the Hispanic Business 500 with revenues of $73.26 million in 1999. CEO Frank Venegas Jr. says that the company's growth has been encouraged by clients such as Chrysler and Ford who support the development.

Hispanic-owned hospital company Pan American Hospital/Pan American Medical Centers ranks sixth in the Hispanic Business 500 table, with revenues of $339.28 million in 1999. The company owes most of its growth to a deal with United Health Care.

Public companies push the envelope

Seven of the 100 largest companies on the Hispanic Business 500 list trade as public companies. Five are from Florida, with one each from Texas and California. Most of these public companies are the result of mergers or are conglomerates.
