Hispanic TV network extends PBS franchise

Article Abstract:

Private investors are launching a television network called V-me, in partnership with the Public Broadcasting System (PBS), to provide a diverse selection of quality programs only on digital cable and satellite. V-me represents the first Spanish-language multi-platform network to partner with American public television and will target bilingual and Spanish-speaking U.S. Hispanics to reflect the diversity of the community.

A survey by New York-based Horowitz Associates indicates that 30 percent of English-oriented Hispanic households have digital cable, and preferred watching mostly in English. Hence, more Spanish- and English- language competitors are challenging Univision's dominance of viewer ship attention and advertising sales in the U.S. Hispanic TV market.
