Money managers reposition

Article Abstract:

The home mortgage and bond businesses performed well in the US in 2002 due to low interest rates, resulting in revenue gains of 12.4 percent for the finance sector of the 'Hispanic Business 500'. However, the CEOs are not estimating widespread economic improvement in 2003, and are foreseeing the potential for huge losses among large insurance companies because of their liabilities.

The sales of the Hispanic retail segment dropped 41.7 percent in 2002 due to the 11 September 2001 attacks, cutbacks in business spending and a drop in tourism. All the sectors of the retail market are waiting for a turnaround while adapting to new market conditions, in addition to the tax bill that changes the rules for depreciation of capital expenses.

The service sector in the US grew 2.2 percent in 2002, however, the sector's cumulative revenues on the Hispanic Business 500 contracted 23.7 percent. Service providers, who have integrated new technologies into their processes to remain competitive and to spread their message and information, are anticipating a renewed growth in 2003.
