SBA under fire: Critics rail against agency's budget, disaster response

Article Abstract:

Congressional hearings on the Small Business Administration's (SBA) budget are shaping up into a partisan battle that also includes a call for the resignation of SBA Administrator Hector Barreto. Ranking Democrat on the House Small Business Committee, Nydia Velazquez, criticized that the SBA has declined unprecedented amounts of disaster loans in response to the hurricanes and has also failed to act at critical junctures when small businesses in the Gulf Coast were desperately in need of assistance.
