Who really shaped American science fiction?
Article Abstract:
The origin of science fiction is associated with Hugo Gernsback and John W. Campbell, two magazine editors. Hugo Gernsback's magazines were the first to suggest that science fiction might inspire some engineer or inventor to develop in the laboratory an idea he had first read about in one of the stories and science fiction's Golden Age is considered to have begun in 1938 when Campbell became the editor of Astounding Stories and the developments which took place in Astounding under his influence.

Exile and the Republic: Thomas McGrath and the legacy of Jefferson's America
Article Abstract:
American poet Thomas McGrath's artistry as it relates to his political leanings is critiqued. Known for his anti-Establishment poems, McGrath even went so far as rejecting the American Revolution, doubting the political and aesthetic creativity of the republic's founders. While sympathetic with the political left, McGrath also had trouble with the organized left or the Communist Party.
