A comparison of the abuse experiences of male and female adults molested as children

Article Abstract:

A survey of 365 adults, who were molested as children, attempted to find differences in the molestation experiences between boys and girls. Results show that equal numbers of boys and girls were molested by their natural fathers. Stepfathers tended to molest girls, whereas boys were more likely to be molested by family friends. The mean age for the start of the molestation experience was 7.65 for boys and 7.6 years for girls. Molestation lasted an average of 3.91 years for boys and 5.6 years for girls.

Abuse among African African elderly

Article Abstract:

Information on elder abuse in the black population is scarce. Black people have traditionally relied on informal networks for help rather than on government services. This network may be responsible for a low rate of elder abuse among blacks. However, as changes in black communities occur because of drugs, economic conditions and other factors affecting the larger American society, these support networks in families and neighborhoods may weaken resulting in increased elder abuse.
