A marker method to test a phasing hypothesis in family problem-solving interaction

Article Abstract:

A marker method for evaluating a phasing theory in problem-solving behaviors identifies the pattern of problem-solving processes in families. This method is adaptable to various problem-solving situations and uses new behaviors as markers to establish the start and end of different problem solving periods. The marker method is judged by testing a phasing hypothesis that suggests problem solving to be a rational and stepwise process. Although it is difficult to change established family problem-solving patterns, ineffective methods can be changed using educational means.

The relationship between social support and life satisfaction as a function of family structure

Article Abstract:

A proper social network and supportive family referents lead to better life satisfaction and personal growth. Effect of social support on life satisfaction is influenced by family structure and the support provider. The four different functions of social support, namely, companionship, emotional, tangible, and informational, are interrelated. This shows that referents providing support in one dimension are helpful in other dimensions as well. Analysis of mean support levels shows that a person may get more support from some referents than others.

Butterflies and bifurcations: can chaos theory contribute to our understanding of family systems?

Article Abstract:

The chaos theory in science can be used as a means to understand the complex relationships within the family. The behavior that creates disorders and nonequilibrium in systems can also be considered analogous to the family system that is equally prone to changes of relationships within the unit. Self organization is the only solution left for the chaotic structure of the family.
