A prospective study of behavioral disturbance in children who subsequently experience parental divorce: a research note

Article Abstract:

Children from disrupted homes show excessive disturbance compared to those from normal ones. A group of 450 children, aged 7 years, were interviewed from 1979-1982, and on the basis of the information gathered 139 families were chosen for the final study conducted during 1984-1986 on the same children, now aged between 9 and 12. Between the two interview phases the children whose homes had disintegrated were markedly disturbed unlike those whose homes remained intact.

Inner-city, poor children of divorce: negative divorce-related events, problematic beliefs and adjustment problems

Article Abstract:

The fear of abandonment is positively related to child or parent reports of adjustment problems, and maternal blame beliefs were mildly related to child-adjustment reported by parents. These findings were made after a study that investigated the effects of negative divorce occurrences. Four kinds of divorce theories about the problems of coping with divorce faced by 35 inner city deprived children were used.

Favorable outcomes in children after parental divorce

Article Abstract:

A psychological study of the short and long-term effects of divorce on children revealed that they initially struggled to cope with the sudden change in their domestic life. These children, however, emerged stronger and faced challenges in a better way. They proved to be more mature and more emphatic in establishing their individuality when compared with their peers.
