Adolescent sexuality: disentangling the effects of family structure and family context

Article Abstract:

Research presented concerns the influence of family structure and context on the sexual initiation and behavior of adolescents. Findings suggest that family structure, such as single-parent, cohabiting, step- or lesbian families, has little impact of adolescents' sexual initiation; rather, family context and the mother-daughter relationship has more of an impact on the sexual partnering of girls.
