Matching adolescents with foster mothers and fathers: an evaluation of the role of temperament

Article Abstract:

Similar temperaments of foster parents and adolescent foster children result in better foster care adjustment and higher family functioning. However, parental perceptions of temperamental matching and family dynamics are more positive as compared to adolescents' or case managers' perceptions. Matching of flexible mothers with adolescents with positive mood and of both fathers and adolescents with positive mood leads to better family adjustment. The tendency of parents to report more temperamental matching, favorable adjustment, and functioning may be due to a social desirability bias.

Teaching preschoolers to avoid abduction by strangers: evaluation of maintenance strategies

Article Abstract:

The training procedures are an effective tool of teaching and maintaining abduction-avoidance behavior in a classroom setting. A study was conducted in three preschool classes with a total of 46 children to evaluate the training procedures used to teach preschoolers to avoid abductions by strangers. Strategies to promote maintenance of the avoidance skills learned are also assessed. Prior to training, the preschoolers did not display the critical abduction avoidance behaviour such as walking away from the strangers.
