Mental health problems of children in foster care

Article Abstract:

Children in foster care greatly require the care of mental health professionals as these children exhibit significantly higher risk for mental health problems than those who are not in foster care. A study was conducted to compare children in foster care who were examined for behavior and social competence problems, self-concept and adaptive functioning in three California counties. Findings suggest that the most significant mental health screening issue with children in foster care is to gauge the specific mental health problems that need to be addressed.

Article Abstract:

This article discusses a tripartite model?of anxiety and depression in children ?which includes negative affectivity, positive affectivity, and elevated physiological arousal. The authors, testing the tripartite model, conclude their results failed to support the tripartite theory, but did support a two-factor model which represented general constructs of anxiety and depression.
