Prevention of child maltreatment: evaluation of a parent education program for teen mothers

Article Abstract:

A parent education program for young, unmarried and mostly African American mothers in Virginia aimed at preventing child maltreatment among urban teen mothers was evaluated. The program was effective in minimizing child maltreatment, revealing positive outcomes. Trends showed delayed pregnancies, continuous schooling and increased enrollment in post-high school courses among the participants of the program.
