Recognition of facial expressions of emotion by children with emotional and behavioral disorders

Article Abstract:

The ability of children and adolescents with emotional and behavioral disorders to recognize facial expressions was investigated in a sample of patients receiving in-patient psychiatric services. Results revealed that accuracy in identifying expressions increased with age. Patients diagnosed with mood disorders, adjustment disorders or disruptive behavior disorders were more accurate than those without diagnoses. Likewise, subjects with mood disorders were more accurate in identifying sadness than patients without this diagnosis.

Parental attributions of the causes of their children's behavior

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to examine how parents make causal attributions of their children's best and worst behavior while these children are taking methylphenidate to treat symptoms of Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Results show that parents consider their children's efforts as the primary determinant of their best and worst behaviors. It was also observed that parents having children with ADHD believe that they do not have much influence on their children's behavior.
