Risk factors for teenage fatherhood

Article Abstract:

Researchers have used information from the Rochester Youth Development Study, which focuses on urban youth, to gain an insight into early risk factors which may make a boy more likely to become a teenage father. It seems that there are many different risk factors associated with teenage fatherhood. These include socioeconomic disadvantage, race and involvement in problem behaviours. Teenage fatherhood is more common among boys whose parents became parents at an early age and whose parents do not have much formal education.

Factors related to union formation among single mothers in Canada

Article Abstract:

Factors correlated with union formation among single Canadian mothers were determined. Younger women tended to form a union more rapidly than older women. Employment was also observed as a hindrance in seeking intimate relationship for these women. Findings indicate that the nature of single-parent situations determines the likelihood of union formation. Moreover, events leading to single parenthood also influence union formation among single Canadian mothers.
