Setting aside the model in family therapy

Article Abstract:

Family therapy has undergone changes in terms of treatment approaches and the relationship between the practitioner and the client. A shift in the therapy practice is noticeable that focuses on the etiological cause of the problem rather than the rehabilitation process. The etiological analysis involves the 'blame and change approach' which is similar to the therapy's repression theory. Likewise, the narrative therapy is also considered a significant approach in family therapy and this approach can be further enhanced by setting aside a model effective in the problem analysis.

A personal retrospective of the family therapy field: then and now

Article Abstract:

A family therapist looks back at his career and at the trends and changes that are shaping the future of family therapy. He emphasizes that family therapy is a separate profession with its own conceptual model, treatment rationale, training methods and research. He also stresses his belief in the value of family therapy and its role in identifying, assessing and providing solutions to a wide variety of human problems. He traces the history of the field of family therapy and identifies the profession's positive and negative aspects.

From rigid borderlines to fertile borderlands: reconfiguring family therapy

Article Abstract:

Family therapist Lynn Hoffmann focused on the use of the narrative approach in the practice of family therapy and proposed a model to enhance the practice of the field. She reflected on the early practice models which centered on the etiological and blaming factors involved in the problem and encouraged the development of a more ethical approach. However, her proposed model might generate confusion since it was her intention to eliminate the etiological aspect of the model and focus more on the 'non-scientific' side.
