The social status of elderly women and men within the Filipino family

Article Abstract:

A study by the Population Studies Center of the University of Michigan, and the Population Institute of the University of the Philippines, used data from a 1984 research project of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Population Program to reveal that modernization was not the only influence on the social status of those aged 60 and above in the Philippines. The factors of age, control over resources, health, employment status, and marital status could be as influential in regard to the decision making power of seniors in the Philippines.
