Welfare use across generations: how important are the ties that bind?

Article Abstract:

The intergenerational nature of welfare has always been a heated topic. A study of data regarding American homes shows that 3/4th of the individuals receiving welfare were not brought up in homes that received welfare. However, children brought up in welfare-receiving homes are more likely to need welfare as adults than those that are not brought up in such homes. This is because these children are not able to receive proper education and not because they have been brought up to think that getting welfare benefits is the easy way of life.

Cognitive and behavioral predictors of communication in clinic-referred and nonclinical mother-adolescent dyads

Article Abstract:

A study investigated the link between mothers' and adolescents' perceptions of the behavior of one another and their real communication behavior in a problem-solving activity. Findings revealed that the negative beliefs of teenagers about their mothers resulted in unique variance in prediction of adolescent negative communication. The results indicated the need for the consideration of adolescents' and parents' perceptions of each other, and their problem-solving abilities in dealing with parent-adolescent conflict.
