CES Publishing Corporation has announced three executive appointments. Michael Romano, formerly of Hearst Publications, has been appointed publisher of Consumer Electronics Monthly. Marcia Grand has been promoted to associate publisher. Stephen Traiman, formerly from the Recording Industry Association of America, has joined CES as director of promotion and special events.

The throat singers of Tuva

A musical ethnographer and a composer traveled to Tuva, Russia, to study the throat singers of the country. These persons can create sounds not heard in ordinary speech such as carrying two musical lines simultaneously or synchronizing with a waterfall.
