Crashing the academy: the Internet could destroy college as we know it; or, just possibly, save it

Article Abstract:

Jones International University has become the first online college to receive accredited status. It currently has 12 undergraduate students and 64 master's candidates. It emphasizes applied telecommunications and communications management. This development in higher education is a challenge to more traditional and more costly institutions to adapt to the benefits of Web sites, online discussion, and other ways to adjust to a new world of learning. Computer sites can assume the role of providing knowledge and facts. Professors can become resources for challenging students about the validity and relevance of their newly acquired information.
