New friends for the Kirtland's warbler
Article Abstract:
Protection of the endangered song-bird species Kirtland's warbler requires effective outreach strategies for increasing public awareness and understanding of the birds. Habitat management increased the number of the birds from 334 in 1987 to 1,530 in 1995. The outreach plan formulated by biologists and interpretation specialists includes free daily field trips, presentations on the life of the birds, an annual Kirtland's warbler festival, and self-guided wildlife tours. These activities increase public knowledge about habitats, ecosystem, and importance of preserving the bird.

Collapsing Cairo

Thea earthquake measured between 5.5 and 6.0 on the Richter scale, and numerous people died in collapsed buildings. Many buildings in Cairo are old and poorly maintained, because of low rents which make safety improvements too expensive.
