A bit of Portugal comes to Virginia

Article Abstract:

Horton Vineyards, a winery based in Virginia, has introduced Dionysus, a red wine that offers a blend of premium Portuguese red wine grape varieties Touriga Nacional and Tinta Cao. Dionysus, which is slated to be rolled out in fall 1999, will sell for $25 retail across the US. According to Horton Vineyards president Dennis Horton, he brought the Portuguese grape varieties to Virginia after learning that they were seldom infected with powdery mildew. Horton produced 1,200 cases of his new red wine in 1997 and is planning to double production levels by 2002.
