Erratic weather plagues southern harvests

Article Abstract:

Reports from leading wine regions of the Southern Hemisphere are presented. In Chile and Argentina, yields are down 15% overall, but quality is high. Australia's 1999 harvest is 10% larger than 1998, and quality is good to very good. In South Africa, some varietals fared well while others could not achieve maximum ripeness. Unusual weather conditions in all Southern Hemisphere regions have been cited as reasons for erratic yields.
