First quarter 1999 auction index rises 7.7 percent

Article Abstract:

Prices for specific bottles of wine, down to vintage and growth, sold in 1st qtr 1999 are listed and compared with figures from 4th qtr 1998. The average price rose 7.7% due to aggressive bidding, a good stock market and millennium party preparations. Bordeaux from the 1989 and 1990 vintages and clarets from 1985 enjoyed the greatest appreciation in value.
