In a dramatic shift, new federal guidelines say it's OK to drink moderately

The newly published 'Dietary Guidelines for Americans' pamphlet acknowledges the mounting body of scientific evidence on the benefits of moderate alcohol consumption. A member of the panel that wrote the guidelines, Dr. Marion Nestle, said the panel viewed the subject as noncontroversial.

Red wine boom startles Californians

Article Abstract:

Red wine consumption in the US is up significantly, and California vintners are having to work hard to meet demand. This trend has coincided with a Nov 17, 1991 '60 Minutes' segment, which analyzed the health benefits of moderate red wine consumption, pointing to the French as examples.
