JAPAN: HOKKAIDO SAGYO TO PRODUCE BETAINE

Article Abstract:

Hakkaido Sagyo has received a commission from the Finnish company Cultor to produce betaine from sugar beet. This product is to be used in animal feed, sales of 600 tonnes to 1,000 tonnes a year are forecast. Cultor, which now is part of the Danish company Danisco, is the world's largest natural betaine supplier.

JAPAN: LITTLE CESAR PIZZA OUTLETS ARRIVE

Little Cesar, which has 4,000 pizza outlets in the United States, and which is the world's third biggest pizza chain, has opened an outlet in Niigata prefecture. It has set a target of opening 80 outlets in Japan in 2000. This pizza chain serves high quality pizzas at low prices.

JAPAN: KIKKOMAN SELLS GRAPE SEED EXTRACT

Kikkoman Corp, which sells Gravinol brand grape seed extract, has carried out research on mice which shows that grape seed polyphenols prevent colon cancer as well as preventing arteriosclerosis. Kikkoman also sells Vino Power, a nutritional supplement.
