Good strategies to follow when collecting wine include not allowing them to age past their prime, only cellaring good wines and going through the collection annually to decide what to drink and what to purchase. It is good to sample a variety of new wines.

Collecting vs. investing

Don't gamble, just drink

Wine collectors should not hold onto their wines for more than 10 years as a general rule. Factors such as corks and storage can make a good wine go bad after too long. Specific wines are discussed.
