Windows of opportunity

Article Abstract:

Drink windows are intended to guide the novice wine drinker more so than professional, as it is tough to know when a wine might be at its best. The modern day Napa Cabernet are at their best in their first decade and those who cellar their wines for too long with great expectations eventually end up with more wine than they can drink and much of them might already be in decline.

A caveat for Cabernet

Article Abstract:

Napa Valley Cabernet wines are the most coveted of trophy wines, and collecting them is the most competitive and expensive segment of the market. The overall quality of the 2003 vintage Cabernets is variable, with some excellent wines made, but many more that were far less inspiring, making it a mixed vintage, although the vintages of 2001, 2002, 2004 and 2005 were excellent.
