Stop me before I judge again

Article Abstract:

Wine competitions have their merits but the customer is the best judge in his own private cellar or dining table. The disadvantages of such events lie in their tendency to confuse the palate of judges because of the large variety of wines to be tasted. Furthermore, conformity to a certain taste is usually the rule and thus, highly individual wines are unduly disregarded.

What's like got to do with it?

Article Abstract:

People in the US seem to think it is not very democratic to say that one wine is better than another, but those with educated palates know better. Personal taste may have nothing to do with a wine's merit. A wine expert explains the complexity of the situation.

Gone with the wine?

Article Abstract:

Wines can be classified as either indoor or outdoor wines. Pinot Noir is an indoor wine because the bouquet gets lost if tasted outdoors. Barbaresco and Barolo are also indoor wines. Chardonnay, Riesling and Chenin Blanc are good outdoor wines.
