The magnificent 30: Freeman Vineyard & Winery

Article Abstract:

Freeman Vineyard & Winery in Sebastopol, Sonoma County, made 3,000 cases in 2005, of which its four Pinot Noirs, all from Sonoma, accounted for 2,600 cases, with Russian River Chardonnay making up the rest. The Pinots tend to be fragrant and streamlined, often with enticing spice aromas, as owners Ken and Akiko Freeman try for an understated, food-friendly style of Pinot Noir.

The magnificent 30: The Ojai Vineyard

Article Abstract:

Adam Tolmach, owner and winemaker of the Ojai Vineyard in Ventura County is often the first to pick grapes believing that the perfumed qualities of Pinot Noir are lost when picking too ripe and what is gained is a thick fruitiness. Ojai's 2006 vintage will offer four Pinot bottlings, all from Santa Barbara County.
