The two tycoons behind the Cheval-Blanc Deal

Article Abstract:

The 49 year-old Bernard Arnault and 72 year-old Albert Frere have teamed up to purchase the Bordeaux wine maker. Arnault is best known for his position as chairman for LVMH Moet Hennesy Louis Vuitton while Frere has worked in a number of different industries and is currently the president of GBL. The two are friends with a mutual interest in wine and being in business together.

Boisset buys another estate

Boisset has purchased a rival negociant for approximately $4 million. Boisset's international holdings continue to grow, adding to the wine empire that the 50-year-old began as a teenager. His wines from France and California are high in quality.

Burgundy feels the pinch: Drouhin sells off Jaffelin amid slack demand

Drouhin has streamlined his financial operations by selling Jaffelin to Boisset, who has made three other wine acquisitions in 1992. Boisset produces low-priced Burgundy wines under his labels.
