UB reaping the benefits of change

Article Abstract:

United Biscuits (UB) has benefitted from the reorganisation program it started in 1995, with profits from European sales increasing by 26%, in 1997, compared to figures for 1996. The value of profits were affected by the strong pound causing them to remain the same as 1996, at 17.1 million pounds sterling. Sales to Asia Pacific countries were not too badly affected by the economic crisis in the region. UB's operating profit increased by 5%, for 1997, although actual sales fell by 2%. Profits from UK sales of snacks and biscuits, in 1997, were worth 90.7 million pounds sterling.

Some places were able to overcome bad design before failure. After more than one try, several restaurants through changes in decor and design were able to successfully reattract customers.
