Valandraud, hot St.-Emilion estate, drops prices 20 percent for 1998 futures

Article Abstract:

Jean-Luc Thunevin of Chateau de Valandraud says that his prices are too expensive for the Bordeaux market and has reduced trade prices for his 1998 vintage to $82 per bottle, a 20% reduction from the 1997 vintage. Thunevin hopes to send a message to other Bordeaux vintners that the wines are overpriced. Some observers say that the reduction probably will not affect the market.
