Wines seized as part of crackdown on direct shipments

Article Abstract:

Authorities have started apprehending illegal shipments of table wines that were intended to be passed on directly to consumers from the wineries. The latter have been resorting to this marketing scheme to evade taxes and other costs that accompany the legal distribution method.

BATF clamps down on free speech

BATF told Leeward Winery to stop circulating a newsletter that quoted excerpts from a '60 Minutes' episode discussing positive research on the health benefits of moderate wine consumption. BATF prohibits the alcohol industry from making any health claims about its products.

Winery sharing is latest alternative: Royce, Hidden Cellars first alternating proprietors

Article Abstract:

Royce Vineyards has set up its winery inside Hidden Cellars in Ukiah, CA. A new revision to winery laws made in 1990 now makes this money-saving type of joint venture legal. The Hidden Cellars winemaker will also be making wines for Royce.
