A glass of Muscadet

Article Abstract:

The wine of France's Muscadet region near the mouth of the Loire is a light, dry white that is made to be enjoyed young. Muscadet's principal grape is a Gamay variety that is known as Melon de Bourgogne in other places. Several of the region's wineries are described.

France's oldest wine region is the Corbieres, which is on the Mediterranean coast. The wines of this region are made primarily today of Syrah, Grenache, Mourvedre and Cinsault. The region's red wines are excellent and can usually be purchased for under $10.

Graves: a most particular taste

The Graves region of Bordeaux, France has a great advantage nurturing its vineyards because of the gravel surrounding it, which sits over the clay and ensures quick drainage for the vines. The history of winemaking in the region is described.
