Emergency food bags offer more than food

Article Abstract:

A workshop was conducted at an urban food assistance program to teach food packers with the principles of Canada's Food Guide to Healthy Eating to guide them in properly monitoring the nutritional adequacy of emergency food packages. Comparison of prepacked food bags with the participants' emergency food bags was done to evaluate the adequacy of nutritional content of emergency food bags and the participants' intake. The workshop enabled the food bag packers to understand the importance of properly balancing the food bags based on the Food Guide.

The game, which takes about 30 minutes with eight players, assigns one bingo card and approximately 25 chips to each player. Each of the 150 1-inch bingo calling squares had one letter, either B, I, N, G, or O, and one or more food items written on it. Players also consult the pamphlet, 'Food for Baby's First Year,' during the course of the game.
