Article Abstract:

Family finances from 1983 up to 1989 in the US were widely influenced by banking decontrol, tax law innovations, growing economy and family demographics changes. The real disposable personal income rose by 21%, households by 9%, household assets by 61% and net worth by 56%. The make-up of family held assets had a minor change from 1983 to 1989 while the ratio of families with liabilities went up by 3% from 70% during the same period. The biggest improvement in households was in those led by persons between 35 to 45 years old.
