How grapefruit juice potentiates drug bioavailability

Article Abstract:

It appears that drinking grapefruit juice can improve the delivery of certain medications by blocking the breakdown of the drug in the small intestine. Interactions with a series of intestinal enzymes appear to be responsible for this effect. Certain antivirals, hormones, calcium channel blockers, antihistamines, and immunosuppressants have been shown to be more available within the blood stream when taken with grapefruit juice.
